ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To analyze the relationship between radiographic parameters and clinical outcomes of patients with distal radius fractures in elderly patients following conservative treatment, and find the important radiographic parameters with distal radius fractures in elderly patients.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From May 2012 to May 2015, a retrospective analysis was performed of 45 elderly patients with distal radius fractures treated by conservative treatment, which including 17 males and 28 females with an average age of 64.49 years old from 60 to 89 years old. The imaging parameters were measured and the clinical efficacy was evaluated. The imaging parameters on the standard wrist joint X-ray picture were measured including metacarpal angle, the radius height, the ulna variation, the ulnar angle, and so on. The clinical effect of wrist joint was evaluated by Dienst score standard. Multiple factor linear regression was used to analyze the relationship between the image parameters and the clinical efficacy.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>All patients were followed up for 12 to 24 months with an average of 17.6 months. All fractures of the distal radius were healed. According to the Dienst evaluation, at the final follow-up the result was excellent in 27 cases, good in 10 cases, fair in 6 cases and poor in 2 cases. There was a significant correlation between the height of the radius, the angle of the palmar and the variation of the ulna and the function of the wrist joint in the imaging parameters. When the radius height more than 8.12 mm, the palmar angle more than -1.64 degree and the ulna variant less than 4.05 mm, the result of Dienst function was better.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The imaging parameters such as the radius height, the palmar angle and the ulna variation are related to the recovery of the clinical efficacy of the distal radius fractures in the elderly. The most important parameter is the radius height, which reminds the surgeon to pay special attention to the reduction of the radius fracture in the elderly.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the association between plasma Klotho protein level and lacunar cerebral infarction in the elderly. Methods Eighty eight patients with lacunar cerebral infarction aged over 60 years were selected as the observation group, and 90 age-and gender-matched elderly patients without lacunar infarction as the control group. The protein level of Klotho was tested by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Klotho protein level was compared between the observation and control groups. The correlation between plasma Klotho level and lacunar infarction in elderly patients was analyzed. Results Compared with the control group, lacunar infarction group showed that Klotho protein level was decreased [(689.4±40.8) ng/L vs.(848.5±38.7) ng/L,P=0.009],and the proportion of patients with hypertension was increased (83.0% vs.66.7%,P=0.04).There was no significant difference in age, gender, body mass index (BMI),dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease between the two groups. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the low plasma level of Klotho protein and hypertension were identified as the independent risk factors for Lacunar infarction (OR=3.325 and 2.413,P=0.003 and 0.021,respectively).Conclusions Klotho protein level may be associated with lacunar cerebral infarction in elderly people.Monitoring plasma Klotho protein level has an important clinical significance in the prevention, diagnosis and prognosis of lacunar cerebral infarction.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To explore clinical efficacy of levoearnitine combined with trimetazidine in the treatment of ischemic cardiomyopathy(ICM) heart failure in elderly patients.METHODS:64 ICM elderly patients with heart failure were randomly divided into control group and observation group(n=32).Both group were given therapy of regulating blood lipid, antiplatelet, anti ischemia and conventional anti-heart failure therapy.Observation group were additionally intravenously injected with levoearnitine and given oral dose of trimetazidine for 2 weeks.Cardiac function classification, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD),left ventricular end systolic diameter(LVESD) and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) of patients were determined before and after treatment.RESULTS:The cardiac function and the level of LVEDD,LVESD and LVEF in observation group were all significantly better than in control group. There were statistical significance in difference between two groups(P

ABSTRACT

Aim To study the interference role of Bcl-2 siRNA on HL-60 cells. Methods Bcl-2 siRNA was synthesized in vitro transcription with silencer siRNA construction kit. The synthesized siRNA was transfected into HL-60 cells with lipid siPORT transfection. Forty-eight hours after the transfection, we used MTT and immunofluorescence to detect cell proliferation and apoptosis, and used RT-PCR and immunofluorescence to detect the level of Bcl-2 mRNA and Bcl-2 protein expression. Result Bcl-2 siRNA reduced the level of Bcl-2 mRNA and Bcl-2 protein expression in HL-60 cells and induced cell apoptosis. There was no difference on the effect of other groups compared with the control. Effective Bcl-2 siRNA specifically degraded Bcl-2 expression in the levels of mRNA and protein and induced HL-60 cells apoptosis. Conclusion These results indicate that siRNA is a highly specific tool for targeted gene knockdown. siRNA-mediated gene silencing is a reliable approach for large-scale screening of gene function and drug target validation.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effects of Musk glucoprotein on chemotaxis of Polymorphonuclear leukocytes(PMN).</p><p><b>METHOD</b>The chemotaxis of PMN in abdominal cavity in rat induced by carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) was used as an in vivo animal model and in in vitro it was evaluated by Boyden chamber. The concentration of cytosolic free Ca2+ was quantitated with the fluorescent Ca2+ indicator Fura-2.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>The water extract of Musk at dose of 5, 20, 80 mg.kg-1 (s.c.) significantly inhibited the chemotaxis of PMN in rat; Musk-1 at concentration of 1-100 micrograms.mL-1 can significantly inhibit the chemotaxis of rabbit PMN in vitro; Musk-1 at concentration of 1-100 micrograms.mL-1 can significantly inhibit the increase of cytosolic Ca2+ concentration in PMN of rat.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Part of mechanisms underlying antiinflammatory action of Musk is to inhibit the chemotaxis of PMN.</p>
